Can International Students Stay in the United Kingdom After Graduation?

If you’re an international student studying at a university in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, or Wales and have gotten a job offer from a company there after graduation, you can apply for permission to stay and work under Tier 2 of the Points-Based System. Depending on your qualification level, your post-graduation work permit will last between 12 months and five years.

If you get another job with a different employer (or leave your current position), you’ll need to apply again. But switching jobs while in Britain is easier than it was since 2018 changes. To be eligible, your first employer must be able to provide proof that they advertised positions locally but weren’t able to fill them with suitable candidates.
