University of Warsaw

The University of Warsaw (Polish: Uniwersytet Warszawski, Latin: Universitas Varsoviensis), established in 1816, is the largest university in Poland. It employs over 6,000 staff, including over 3,100 academic educators. It provides graduate courses for 53,000 students (on top of over 9,200 postgraduate and doctoral candidates). The university offers some 37 different fields of study, 18 faculties and over 100 specializations in the humanities, technical, and the natural sciences.

It was founded as a Royal University on 19 November 1816, when the Partitions of Poland separated Warsaw from the oldest and most influential Jagiellonian University of Kraków. Alexander I granted permission for the establishment of five faculties – law and political science, medicine, philosophy, theology and the humanities.

Jagiellonian University

The Jagiellonian University is a public research university in Kraków, Poland. Founded in 1364 by the King of Poland Casimir III the Great, the Jagiellonian University is the oldest university in Poland, the second oldest university in Central Europe, and one of the oldest surviving universities in the world.

The campus of the Jagiellonian University is centrally located within the city of Kraków. The university consists of sixteen faculties, including the humanities, law, the natural and social sciences, and medicine. The university employs roughly 4,000 academics, and has almost 40 thousand students who study in some 80 disciplines. More than half of the student body are women. Warsaw University of Technology

The Warsaw University of Technology is one of the leading institutes of technology in Poland and one of the largest in Central Europe. It employs 2,453 teaching faculty, with 357 professors (including 145 titular professors). The student body numbers 36,156 (as of 2011), mostly full-time. There are 19 faculties (divisions) covering almost all fields of science and technology. They are in Warsaw, except for one in Płock.

The Warsaw University of Technology has about 5,000 graduates per year. According to the 2008 Rzeczpospolita newspaper survey, engineers govern Polish companies. Warsaw Tech alums make up the highest percentage of Polish managers and executives. Every ninth president among the top 500 corporations in Poland is a graduate of the Warsaw University of Technology. Professor Kurnik, the rector, explained that the school provides a solid basis for the performance of managers by equipping its students with an education at the highest level and a preparation with the tools and information, including knowledge of foreign languages.

Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznan

The Adam Mickiewicz University is a research university in Poznań, Poland. It traces its origins to 1611, when under the Royal Charter granted by King Sigismund III Vasa, the Jesuit College became the first university in Poznań. The Poznań Society for the Advancement of Arts and Sciences which played an important role in leading Poznań to its reputation as a chief intellectual centre during the Age of Positivism and partitions of Poland, initiated founding of the university.

The inauguration ceremony of the newly establish institution took place on 7 May 1919 that is 308 years after it was formally establish by the Polish king and on 400th anniversary of the foundation of the Lubrański Academy which is considers its predecessor. Its original name was Piast University, which later in 1920 was rename to University of Poznań. During World War II staff and students of the university open an underground Polish University of the Western Lands. In 1955 University of Poznań adopt a new patron, the 19th-century Polish Romantic poet Adam Mickiewicz, and change to its current name.

AGH University of Science and Technology

AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, AGH UST is a public university in Krakow, Poland. The university was founded in 1913, but its inauguration took place in 1919. The AGH UST is a modern university which focuses on creating innovative technologies. The research profile of the university includes engineering disciplines, exact sciences, Earth sciences, and social sciences, with an emphasis on current priorities of economy and business.

The university is one of 10 Polish higher education institutions that has been given the title of a research university. The university comprises, among other units, 16 faculties, a research centre – the AGH UST Academic Centre for Materials and Nanotechnology, and other didactic centres and departments.

Cracow University of Technology

Lodz University of Technology

Lodz University of Technology (TUL) was created in 1945 and has developed into one of the biggest technical universities in Poland. Originally located in an old factory building, today covering nearly 200,000 sq. meters in over 70 separate buildings, the majority of them situated in the main University area. Almost 15,000 students are currently studying at the University. The educational and scientific tasks of the University are carries out by about 3,000 staff members.

Nicolaus Copernicus University

Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń or NCU is located in Toruń, Poland. It is named after Nicolaus Copernicus, who was born in Toruń in 1473. The first institution of higher education in Torun, the Toruń Academic Gymnasium was founded in 1568 on Piekary street. It was one of the first universities in northern Poland. The Academic Gymnasium was the precursor to scientific and cultural life (including the first museum created in 1594) in the region.

Thanks to the efforts of Heinrich Stroband, city mayor in 1594, academics in Toruń received good working conditions for teaching and research. Poznan University of Technology

Poznań University of Technology is a university in Poznań, Poland. Poznań University of Technology is known as one of the best technical universities in Poland.
