What is the German Academic Exchange Service? (DAAD)
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is a private, federally and state-funded, self-governing national agency of German higher education institutions that represents 365 German higher education institutions (100 universities and technical universities, 162 general universities of applied sciences, and 52 colleges of music and art) [2003]. The DAAD does not provide study programs or courses, but instead awards competitive, merit-based grants for study and/or research in Germany at any accredited German institution of higher education.
It also provides grants to German students, doctoral students, and scholars for study and research in other countries. The DAAD is the world’s largest academic grant organization, with an annual budget of 522 million Euros and a global support of approximately 140.000 individuals. The organization was founded on January 1, 1925, but it was closed down in 1945, only to be reopened in 1950.

Eligibility:
Candidates eligible for the DAAD scholarship for “Development-Related Postgraduate Courses” must:
- hold at least a four-year Bachelor’s degree (or a three-year Bachelor’s degree plus a further degree), completed with above-average results.
- have received their latest degree no more than six years ago.
- have at least two years of full-time professional experience gained in a public authority or a state or private company in a developing country (university staff and academics are generally not taken into account). To meet this requirement, it is sufficient if candidate has completed the two years by the time the program starts in October. In any case, the experience must have been gained after the completion of your first university degree.
- have English test scores which meet the MIPLC requirements (see scholarship website).

How to Apply
- The candidates must belong to a developing country.
- Applicants must not have lived in their home country for more than two years.
- The applicant must have a bachelor’s degree.
- In the event of a bachelor’s degree of 3 years, he must have another one-year degree to complete the required hours of credit for a 4-year bachelor’s degree, or technical knowledge may be converted as the hours of credit.
- Applicants’ qualifications must not be completed more than six years before the application date.
- Applicants must have two years of technical experience in their respective fields.
- Students who do not have their bachelor’s degree in law-related fields may apply, however, they must state the reason for the IPLLM residency in their personal letter.
