What is Google?

Google is a multinational technology company specializing in Internet-related services and products. Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Google hosts and develops a number of Internet-based services, including a popular search engine (Google Search), an advertising network (Google Ads), cloud computing solutions (Google Cloud Platform), and hardware products (e.g., Chromecast).

Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were Ph.D. students at Stanford University in California. Together, they own about 14 percent of its shares but control 56 percent of the stockholder voting power through supervoting stock. The main purpose of Google Search is to search for text in publicly accessible documents offered by web servers, as opposed to other data, such as images or data contained in databases. It was originally developed in 1997 by Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Scott Hassan.

About Google Conference Scholarships

Scholarships are an opportunity to strengthen your skills, make valuable contacts, and share your knowledge with other IT leaders. Scholarships were created to celebrate conferences that Google sponsors or partners with each year. Any student or alumnus can apply for a scholarship to attend one of these conferences free of charge. All we ask in return is for your candid feedback about the conference you attended, which helps us improve our programs for years to come.

What makes Scholarships unique? Your first impression counts. Every scholarship includes a ticket to attend our partner conferences and accommodations (transportation, food, and any other costs are not included). But who you are as a person will be just as important as what you have to say about technology when we select scholarship recipients. At Google, we believe a diversity of attributes, experiences, and perspectives are needed to build tools that can change the world. We also believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to pursue connections in the industry, network with peers, and a career path in technology. To help break down the barriers that prevent underrepresented groups in technology and business from attending leading conferences, we’re excited to offer Google Conference Scholarships for selected conferences in the tech industry and related fields.

What are they looking for?

Google and Google for Work want to help you sharpen your tech skills and network with other professionals. They are offering Google Cloud Platform Training Grants to community organizations that teach underrepresented populations how to code. Prepare for technical interviews, and land jobs in computer science. The idea here is not just giving people access to technology; it’s giving them tools that will give them access to opportunities.

The purpose of these grants is twofold: You get grant recipients a free GCP training course and workshop; we want to help you expand your organization’s reach and impact through technology education. The deadline for submitting applications was June 18, 2022, but don’t fret if you missed it — applications will be open again in 2022. Best of luck!
