Subway is an American privately-held corporation that operates a large chain of fast-food restaurants, selling primarily submarine sandwiches, salads and pizzas. Subway is an American multi-national fast food restaurant franchise that primarily sells submarine sandwiches (subs), wraps, salads and beverages. It was founded by 17 year old Fred DeLuca and financed by Peter Buck in 1965 as Pete’s Super Submarines in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Subway is one of the largest franchises all over the world for fast food restaurant. It is mainly known for its sandwiches and salads. Two people, Fred De Luca and Peter Buck in the year 1965, founded this restaurant. Subway is the world’s largest fast food chain. With nearly 44,000 restaurants in 110 countries, it has more locations than McDonald’s. Subway employs more than 410,000 people.

Why is it called Subway?

Originally named for Dr. Peter Buck, Pete’s Super Submarines became “Pete’s Subway” in 1966 and two years later was known simply as “Subway.” By 1974, Subway had 16 shops in the state of Connecticut.
The holding company derives its name from DeLuca’s goal to earn enough from the business to pay tuition for medical school, as well as Buck’s having a doctorate in physics. Doctor’s Associates is not affiliated with, nor endorsed by, any medical organization. In 1968, the sandwich shop was renamed “Subway”.
This type of sandwich is also called a hoagie, a hero sandwich, a poor boy (or po’ boy) sandwich, an Italian sandwich, or a grinder. Unlike much of the fast food sold by restaurant chains, Subway products are typically not fried and are liberally garnished with fresh vegetables.

It is also one of the cheapest major fast-food restaurants to franchise.

Additionally, Subway’s franchise fee is basically a cover charge for entry into the system, and for taking advantage of the expertise which the franchisor has acquired.

Subway’s franchise fee is due in full from the moment the franchise agreement is sign.

The brand currently offers a discount on the franchise fee for qualified US veterans who decide to purchase a franchise. Subway franchisors also offer to finance $10,000 of the franchise fee if franchisees are purchasing their first franchise and they qualify under a minority loan program.

A similar loan program could be offers to franchisees that are purchasing a franchise for a low-density market. Subway also provides a reduced franchise fee of $5000 to franchisees that desire to open a satellite restaurant. This fee could be reduce to $1000 if the satellite plans to be in operation for one year or less.

Subway franchise fees are waive entirely for satellite locations in the same facility as the base Subway restaurant.

Also, Subway currently waives its initial franchise fee for oil company retailers and school lunch locations that have at least 50 units and are willing to convert an existing sandwich business they own and operate at their facility into a Subway restaurant.

Variations in the final Subway franchise cost and profit depends on things like the real estate costs, the size of the Subway restaurant being opened, renovations that need to be done, and some additional factors like the amount of traffic the restaurant gets in its opening months.
