According to the law in Georgia, work permits are no longer required for minors at the age of 16 and older.

However, minors aged 14 and 15 who reside in Georgia must obtain a work permit before they are allowed to start a job they have been employed to do. The process of securing a work permit in Georgia is officially done online.

G.A. Work Permit Application Process

The following are the steps that minors who live in Georgia need to follow in order to obtain a work permit.

The first step is to fill out a three-part form online. As a minor, you will have to fill a form that is divided into three parts which include a section A, B, and C, which is respectively to be filled by you, your employer and issuing officer.

You’re required to fill section A with required information such as your social security number, date of birth, name, parent’s name, address, etc. Then click “submit.”

A Minor Security Key (MSK) will be sent almost immediately after submitting it. This Minor security key is usually ten characters long. The next step is for the minor is to print the “Work Permit Data Sheet” and then take it to the future employer.

Employer Responsibilities in Completing the Work Permit Process

After the employer receives the datasheet, they are to fill their portion, which is section B of the data sheet online, then they are to give a printed copy of both completed parts to you, the minor.

You will then take the datasheet to an issuing officer. Each school usually has an issuing officer, but the superintendent of schools can also issue a work permit.

Once you bring the datasheet with parts A and B completed to the issuing officer, the issuing officer will then review the authenticity of the data sheet submitted to them and will complete the process online.

The issuing officer will print the completed Work Permit and give a copy to the minor that the minor can then give to the employer. The employer must keep the work permit on file. The online permit is only available to be viewed by the issuing officer for 30 days online.

How to Get a Work Permit in G.A. (For Foreigners)

As a foreigner, if you have moved or you are planning to move and work in the state of Georgia, you would need to consider how to get a work permit or “work visa” like it is commonly referred to as, in Georgia.

The first step in applying for a Georgia work permit is to fill an application form; this form is called a USCIS Form I-765. You can get this form from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services website.

When you are done filling, send it by mail to the USCIS Service Center that serves the area where you live in Georgia. You can also submit it online if you don’t have a mailing address.

Your application will be processed, and If your application is approved and you file a formal visa application in addition to your work permit, you will be interviewed at the U.S. embassy or consulate in the country of residence as a foreigner.
