Below are five of the best retail worker jobs in Canada that are ideal for foreigners who want to work in one of the biggest countries on earth!

The Top 5 Retail Worker Jobs

As Canada’s retail industry continues to grow, many foreign nationals are finding exciting opportunities in the country’s top retail jobs. Retail jobs in Canada can be tough and demanding, so being from another country may not seem like an ideal fit for the average retail position.

However, there are many great roles in the Canadian retail industry that can work well for foreign workers, particularly immigrants and international students who are looking to find employment and gain experience in their new home country of Canada. The top 5 retail worker jobs in Canada that can be filled by foreign workers include customer service agents, sales associates, store managers, head cashiers, and full-time or part-time sales floor staff positions.

What is Retail Worker Jobs?

Retail Worker Jobs is a term that encompasses a wide variety of jobs. These are jobs like sales associates, cashiers, stock clerks, and more. Retail Worker Jobs vary from place to place, but the one thing they have in common is that retail workers provide customers with the best possible shopping experience.

Retail workers are usually assigned to work at designated tasks during their shift. Some of these tasks include unloading merchandise from trucks or stocking shelves or working on registers or helping customers find what they need.

1) Sales Associate

A sales associate is one of the most common jobs in retail. They are responsible for customer service, including helping customers find merchandise, assisting them with purchases and answering any questions about products or policies. A sales associate also stocks shelves, helps maintain a neat and organized store environment, assists with inventory and assists with closing duties as assigned. Sales associates need to have excellent communication skills, be able to work on their own at times and be comfortable interacting with different personalities.

Most retail establishments operate on commission. This means that sales associates earn a percentage of each sale they make. The amount of money a sales associate makes is dependent on their experience, location, and how well they sell. Generally, minimum hourly wages can range from $8 to $10 per hour and sales associate income varies greatly depending on time of year and performance.

Sales associates typically need no formal education or special certification but will often be required to complete some training once employed by their company. The good news about working as a sales associate is that it’s one of the highest-paying entry-level jobs available with an hourly pay rate averaging between $10 to $12 an hour, with commission usually being offered as well.

2) Customer Service Representative

Customer Service Representative is a great job for people who are good with people, love interacting with the public and don’t mind working on commission. You’ll be answering phones, helping customers find products and solving their problems. You’ll also be responsible for data entry and inventory management. Therefore, you’ll need a high school diploma and customer service experience to get this job.

To work as a Customer Service Representative you will need to have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), 6 months of customer service experience, and proficiency in English if you do not speak English as your first language.

3) Merchandiser

Merchandisers work in the retail industry and are responsible for organizing store shelves, arranging merchandise on display and making sure it looks good. They have to take into account a lot of factors when deciding how to arrange products, such as what time of day it is or what kind of sale is going on. Merchandisers often need to lift heavy items and move them around the store. They also need to be able to stand up all day long and operate cash registers if they’re working at a checkout counter.

There are different kinds of merchandisers, but retail is one of the most common. You could end up working as a store merchandiser or you could be asked to organize merchandise shipped from a central warehouse and sent to different stores around your region. In both cases, you’ll need an associate’s degree at minimum. Since you’ll be working with customers every day, customer service skills are extremely important when it comes to getting hired and keeping your job.

4) Retail Manager

A retail manager is an employee who has responsibility and authority over the day-to-day operations of a retail store. They are often responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising employees. A retail manager is responsible for making sure that the store runs smoothly at all times and meets company goals.

Retail managers need to be able to work with people on a daily basis, which can be challenging if you’re not used to it. If you don’t like working with people or you’re shy or introverted, this might not be a good position for you.

5) Store Owner/Operator

Store Owner/Operator: If you don’t mind the responsibility and can come up with an investment, this could be a great job. You would have to find a location, stock the store, and hire employees. However, the payoff is that you get to decide your own hours and pay rate.

As with any other position, store owners and operators have to have some skills. They should know how to work retail stores, deal with customers, and stay on top of inventory. The other benefit is that most people start out as general managers before becoming store owner/operators.
