The Difference Between Speaking and Thinking

Sometimes, people tend to get confused about the difference between speaking and thinking what they want. Speaking and thinking about what you want may change a lot of about your life. These may both allow you to have to what you want, or achieve your dreams, but there are certain things that you have to understand between these two ideas.

What is the difference between talking and speaking?
Speak usually only focuses on the person who is producing the words: He spoke about the importance of taking exercise and having a good diet. Talk focuses on a speaker and at least one listener, and can mean ‘have a conversation’. The focus is on the use of words as part of a conversation with someone else.

What Is Speaking?

Speaking is the delivery of language through the mouth. To speak, we create sounds using many parts of our body, including the lungs, vocal tract, vocal chords, tongue, teeth and lips. Speaking is something used for talking and communicating. An example of speaking is the voice you use when you give a lecture.

Speech is human vocal communication using language. Each language uses phonetic combinations of vowel and consonant sounds that form the sound of its words, and using those words in their semantic. Speaking skills are one of the most important skills we learn, as they allow us to communicate with others and express our thoughts and feelings. Speaking skills can be separated into formal and informal speaking skills, and we use both types of speaking skills in a variety of contexts throughout life.

What are the types of speaking?

Mastering public speaking requires first differentiating between four(4) of the primary types of public speaking:

1. Ceremonial Speaking

Most people will give some sort of ceremonial speech during their lifetime. These speeches mark special occasions. They are common at weddings, graduations and funerals — as well as large birthday celebrations and office holiday parties. Ceremonial speaking typically involves a toast and is personal with an intimate emotional connection to people hearing it.

Ceremonial speaking stresses sharing of identities and values that unite people into communities. These are the special occasions on which we celebrate and reinforce common aims, benefits, and aspirations. “In many ways, special occasions are the punctuation marks of life.

2. Persuasive Speaking

Persuasive speaking tends to be the most glitzy. Politicians, lawyers and clergy members use persuasive speaking. This type of speaking requires practicing voice inflections and nuances of language that will convince the audience members of a certain viewpoint.

Persuasive speaking is the type of speaking that most people engage in the most. This type of speech can involve everything from arguing about politics to talking about what to eat for dinner. Persuasive speaking is very connected to the audience, as the speaker must, in a sense, meet the audience halfway.

The persuasive speaker has a stake in the outcome of the speech. Politicians, for instance, may want votes or a groundswell of support for a pet project, while lawyers are trying to convince a jury of their position — and clergy members are trying to win others over to their faith. The persuasive speaker uses emotional appeals and strong language in speeches.

3. Informative Speaking

With informative speaking, the speaker is trying simply to explain a concept to the audience members. College lecture courses involve informative speaking as do industry conferences and public officials sharing vital information. In this type of speaking, the information is what is important.

Informative Speaking is a 10-minute presentation written and performed by the student. Students in Informative must be articulate, engaging, and smooth with their delivery at both a vocal and physical level. The purpose of the event is to inform and educate the audience on a topic of significance.

The speaker is not trying to get others to agree with him or to show them how to do something for themselves. Rather he is disseminating vital information.

4. Demonstrative Speaking

Science demonstrations and role playing are types of demonstrative speaking. This type of public speaking requires being able to speak clearly and concisely to describe actions and to perform those actions while speaking. A demonstrative speaker may explain the process behind generating power while cycling to power a toaster, for example. The idea behind demonstrative speaking is that the audience members leave with the knowledge about how to do something.

A demonstration speech is a form of informational speaking. The goal of the demonstration speech is to demonstrate a process or how to do something and give the audience information while using visual aids.

What is a demonstrative speech? Demonstrative speeches teach an audience how to do a specific thing. As a demonstrative speaker, you will be their guide, taking them through a process of ‘show and tell’, covering each step from start to finish. It’s like an engaging ‘how-to’ speech.
