The awards are for Masters and Ph. D. Must have obtained admission to undertake a Masters or PhD program. GNPC Foundation is the arm of the Sustainability Department which spearheads the Corporate Social Investment activities of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). The overall objective is “to make GNPC more visible and socially responsible”. The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is the state agency responsible for the exploration, licensing, and distribution of petroleum-related activities in Ghana.

GNPC Description

The Ghana National Petroleum Cor (GNPC) is offering bounded Undergraduate scholarship, through the GNPC Foundation, to global students for the 2019/2020 academic year. The scholarship is for standard courses are tenable ascribed Public Tertiary Institutions in Ghana. The scholarship covers Tuition, Living Expenses, Book Allowance and Dissertation.

The National Petroleum Authority was establish by an Act of Parliament (NPA Act 2005, ACT 691) to regulate the petroleum downstream industry in Ghana. As a Regulator, the Authority ensures that the industry remains efficient, profitable, fair, and at the same time, ensuring that consumers receive value for money.

History

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is Ghana’s National Oil Company (NOC), established in 1983 by PNDC Law 64, to support the government’s objective of providing adequate and reliable supply of petroleum products and reducing the country’s dependence on crude oil imports, through the development of the country’s own petroleum resources.

The Petroleum [Exploration and Production] Law, 1984, PNDC Law 84, was subsequently enacted to provide the regulatory framework for the exploitation of the country’s hydrocarbon resources. PNDC Law 84, establishes the contractual relationship among the state, GNPC and prospective investors in upstream petroleum operations. This law also grants GNPC the right of entry into any open acreage to undertake exploration activities.

The corporation, which started operations in 1985, is partner in all petroleum agreements in Ghana. GNPC is also the national gas sector aggregator in Ghana, and aims to supply efficient fuel to meet Ghana’s increasing energy needs. After the inception of GNPC in 1983, technical assistance was sought from Braspetro, the international subsidiary of the Brazilian National Petroleum Corporation (Petrobras) under UNDP sponsorship in 1985 for the preparation of a strategic organizational plan and recommendations for institutional capacity building. The organizational plan approved by the Board of Directors involved five main functional divisions and four staff departments.

Reviews of the structure have since taken place and currently incorporate a wider scope of activities consistent with our current strategy. The current staff strength is 300. GNPC has a seven-member Board of Directors, appointed by the Ghana Government, which exercises oversight responsibility over the corporation, giving it policy direction.

Jubilee fields

The corporation announced in 2007 that the Petroleum Agreement signed in 2004 between Ghana represented by the Ministry of Energy and the Corporation, on the one hand, and Kosmos Energy HC and its partners had yielded in the discovery of oil in commercial quantities. Production of crude oil begun in December 2010. The country’s oil fields are known as Jubilee fields. And is situated at Cape Three Points in the Western region of the country.

The corporation has controlling stake in all the oil wells that produce crude oil. In April 2011, GNPC confirmed that it had an initial 10% interest in a new oil discovery at the Paradise prospect offshore Ghana. The discovery was announce in April 2011 by Hess Corporation, a New York-base oil company. In June 2011, the corporation lift 135,675 metric tonnes of Jubilee crude oil from the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah.

This represented crude oil on behalf of the Ghana Group, comprising the Government of Ghana (GoG) and GNPC. It represented the first lifting of crude oil from the Jubilee fields. The barrels lifted comprised accumulated government royalties of 37,557 metric tonnes and accumulated GNPC’s 13.75 per cent participating interest entitlement of 98,119 metric tonnes.

Owner

The Government of Ghana was created as a parliamentary democracy, followed by alternating military and civilian governments in Ghana. In January 1993, military government gave way to the Fourth Republic after presidential and parliamentary elections in late 1992. The 1992 constitution divides powers among a president, parliament, cabinet, council of state, and an independent judiciary. The government is elected by universal suffrage.

Ghana is a constitutional republic with a unicameral parliament. 14.1 The head of state and government is the executive president, who is directly elected for a maximum of two four-year terms by universal adult suffrage, with a minimum of 50% of the vote.

Headquarters

Tema is a city on the Bight of Benin and Atlantic coast of Ghana. It is located 25 kilometres (16 mi) east of the capital city; Accra, in the region of Greater Accra, and is the capital of the Tema Metropolitan District. As of 2013, Tema is the eleventh most populous settlement in Ghana, with a population of approximately 161,612 people – a marked decrease from its 2005 figure of 209,000.The Greenwich Meridian (00 Longitude) passes directly through the city. Tema is locally nickname the “Harbour City” because of its status as Ghana’s largest seaport. It consists of 25 different communities which are number accordingly with each of them having easy access to the basic amenities.

The Greater Accra Region has the smallest area of Ghana’s 16 administrative regions, occupying a total land surface of 3,245 square kilometres. This is 1.4 per cent of the total land area of Ghana.

Ghana, officially the Republic of Ghana, is a country in West Africa. It spans the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Sharing borders with the Ivory Coast in the west, Burkina Faso in the north, and Togo in the east.

Industry

Oil and Gas Industry means the sector of industry focused on exploration, data acquisition, development, drilling, production, gathering, refining, distribution and transportation of hydrocarbons and includes but is not limited to major resource holders, national oil companies, multinational oil companies, drilling contractors, services contractors, and other related businesses.

Ghana became a full-blown commercial oil and gas producer with the discovery of the offshore Jubilee field – estimated to hold 700 million barrels of oil (MMbbl) and 800 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of gas. Development of the production site start right away and in December 2010 oil production was officially launch.
