Gates Cambridge University Scholarships

The Gates Cambridge University Scholarship is open to any student who applies with an application made on or after 1 January 2020. The minimum UK investment requirement for the year is £25,000 (Grenville Award). You are considered for a grant if you meet these basic criteria: you’re a UK or EU resident you’re currently at school, college or university you are studying full time in a Higher Education Institution in the UK.

About The Scholarship

Gates There are a number of different scholarships available to international students at Cambridge University. Some of these are made possible by the University of Cambridge, while others come from organizations located outside of the city of Cambridge. Students from all over the world are encouraged to apply for Gates Cambridge University Scholarships so that they can increase their chances of being accepted to the prestigious university located in Cambridge, England.

Students will be able to continue their education, cultivate their interests, and make new friends within an international community thanks to the Gates Cambridge Awards program. The program’s goal is to create an environment that is supportive, engaging, and enjoyable. All first-year undergraduate students attending school full-time who do not call Great Britain or the Republic of Ireland home can apply for a scholarship, either in full or in part, through the awards program.

For the academic year 2023, Gates Cambridge will award a total of 80 full-tuition scholarships to exceptional candidates from outside the United Kingdom who wish to pursue a postgraduate degree at the University of Cambridge full-time and in any field that is offered there. Approximately 25 awards will be made available in the US round, and approximately 55 awards will be made available in the International round. PhD students will be eligible for approximately two-thirds of these awards.

Courses which are NOT eligible for Gates Cambridge Scholarships:

  • Any Undergraduate degree such as BA (undergraduate) or BA affiliated (a second BA)
  • Business Doctorate (BusD)
  • Master of Business (MBA)
  • Master of Finance (MFin)
  • PGCE
  • MBBChir Clinical Studies
  • MD Doctor of Medicine degree (6 years, part-time)
  • Graduate Course in Medicine (A101)
  • Part-time degrees
  • Non-degree courses

Financial Support for Students

The individual who is awarded the Gates Cambridge Scholarship will receive all of the following benefits:

  • Composition Fee of the University, calculated at the appropriate rate
  • A maintenance allowance for a single student (at the rate for 2022-23, £18.744 for 12 months; pro rata for courses shorter than 12 months) – for PhD scholars, the award is for a period of up to 4 years.
  • One round-trip ticket in economy class for both the beginning and the conclusion of the program.
  • costs associated with obtaining an inbound visa as well as those associated with the immigration health surcharge
  • Academic development funding, which can range from up to £500 to up to £2,000 and can be used, among other things, to attend conferences and courses.
  • Family allowance: up to £10,944 for one child, up to £15,612 for two or more children who live in the same household (2022-23 rate). There is no provision of funding for a partner.
  • During the fieldwork portion of your PhD, you can submit a request to receive up to your standard maintenance allowance in order to cover living expenses (the Trust does not fund other fieldwork costs as these should be funded by the University Composition Fee).
  • If you feel you need it, you can apply for funding that will allow you to pause your studies for up to six months and continue to receive your maintenance allowance during that time. This funding is available for both mothers and fathers.
  • Funding for students who have experienced financial hardship due to unforeseen circumstances

Eligibility Criteria for Gates Cambridge Scholarship

To qualify for Gates Cambridge Scholarship, candidate must fulfill all of the following requirements below:

  • Required Language: English
  • Eligible Countries: All world countries.
  • Academic excellence.
  • You should be able to make a strong case for a particular postgraduate degree at Cambridge.
  • A commitment to improving the lives of others.
  • A capacity for leadership.
  • Applicants must be from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree.

How to Make an Application for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship?

When applying for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, please ensure that you follow the application instructions as listed below:

  1. Submit an application to be accepted into a program, as well as a place in a college, and the Gates Cambridge part of the funding section.
  2. Create an account on the website and log in.
  3. Please provide us with your personal information.
  4. Please submit the following documents:
    • Gates Cambridge Statement: Please explain, in no more than 3000 characters (approximately 500 words), why you are applying for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship and how you meet the four main criteria. The maximum number of characters allowed is 3000.
    • CV/Resume
    • A proposal for research (PhD applicants only)
    • In addition to two academic references for admission, applicants for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship are required to submit a reference regarding how well they would fit the requirements of the scholarship.
