History

1980–1998: Beginnings

Charter Communications CATV systems was founded in 1980 by Charles H. Leonard in Barry County, Michigan. The original Charter system headquarters and offices were located at 1001 Payne Lake Road, Yankee Springs Township, Michigan. Leonard began a corporate partnership with Gary Wilcox and Gerry Kazma, both from Naperville, Illinois, during which Spectrum Communications (Kazma) merged with Charter Systems (1981–1983).

Through continued mergers and acquisition, Charter was consolidated in 1993 by Barry Babcock, Jerald Kent and Howard Wood, who had been former executives at Cencom Cable Television in St. Louis, Missouri. It was also incorporated in the state of Missouri in 1993.

In 1995, Charter paid about $300 million for a controlling interest in Crown Media Holdings and acquired Cable South. On 1997, Charter and EarthLink worked together to deliver high-speed Internet access through cable modems to Charter’s customers in Los Angeles and Riverside, California. Provided you have created your main Spectrum username, you can now add additional standard usernames each of which will have an associated email address and independent mailbox.

To add an additional Charter Spectrum standard user, follow these steps.

  1. Sign in to Spectrum.net as usual.
  2. Next select the My Account link at the top of the page.
  3. Near the bottom of the page you will see a list of all existing username already associated with your account.
  4. Select Add User
  5. Now provide the requested details for the new user and agree to the Terms and Conditions.
  6. Select Create Username

This will create your new Charter Spectrum standard username. Optionally you can upgrade a standard user to an administrative user.

NOTE: All new standard usernames have parental controls applied that prevent access to adult content. If you need to change these settings go to My Account and modify the options in Settings.

How to Reset Your Charter Spectrum Email Login Password & Username

To recover your forgotten Charter Spectrum email account username:

  • Tap the Forgot Email Password?
  • Type in the information you require.
  • Your Zip code, account number or telephone number and your last name are there.
  • Select Next, to continue.
  • You’ll need to answer your questions about protection.
  • Before that, pick Get username and your username will pop up.

How to Reset Your Charter Email Sign In Password

To reset your Charter Spectrum email login password:
