What Is University?

A university is an institution of higher education and research which awards academic degrees in several academic disciplines. Universities typically offer both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in different schools or faculties of learning. It can also be an institution of higher learning providing facilities for teaching and research and authorized to grant academic degrees specifically : one made up of an undergraduate division which confers bachelor’s degrees and a graduate division which comprises a graduate school and professional schools.

The definition of a university is a high-level school offering classes that can lead to a bachelor’s degree, or to master’s and doctoral degrees at the graduate level. An example of a university is the University of California at Berkeley. The buildings and grounds of such an institution.
What is difference between college and university?
Colleges and universities primarily differ in program offerings and degree types. “University” refers to larger institutions offering both undergraduate and graduate programs. “College” refers to community colleges, technical schools, and liberal arts colleges.
What is the purpose of university?
This research, which forms part of the Eurostudents project, investigates how undergraduate students understand the purpose of higher education. We found that for many students, it serves three particular functions: to gain decent employment, to achieve personal growth, and to contribute to improvement in society.
