    • return transportation for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada.
  • Obey the law, have no criminal record and get a police certificate (if required).
  • Are in good health and get a medical exam ( Covid 19 test maybe required).
  • Prove to an officer that you will leave Canada when your study permit expires.

How to obtain a Canadian student visa

If you are interested to travel to Canada for study, below are the steps for the visa application;

Send your visa application

You can either send your visa application online or visit the visa application office to submit the hard copy of your printed application form. The Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is the body responsible for acceptance and processing of your Canadian visa application.

After filling the Visa application form online, the form is printed on a high quality, white, bond quality, non-glossy paper, using a laser printer. Also, make sure that the barcode on the form is clearly showing.

Then, you will have to attach the supporting documents such as;

  • The English proficiency test result
  • Your Transcripts and school record
  • School Certificates
  • Proof of finance etc.

Visit the IRCC document checklist to download the supporting documents relevant to your visa category. Then you will have to fill and sign the consent form which is to be attached to your document before submission.

However, if you are unable to gather all the supporting documents at the time of application, you will need to fill and attach a waiver form to your application.

Book for biometric capturing

The next thing after the visa application is to book for a Biometric capturing appointment. To book for a biometric capturing, you will either need to visit the Visa Application Centre or you can apply online.

The biometric information is a process that requires the capturing of your face and fingerprints at the Visa application center.

Once you have booked your appointment, you will receive an appointment confirmation email along with the letter of appointment.

VGS.Global is responsible for capturing and documentation of biometric information. Sometimes, booking for biometric capturing online maybe defective, in that case, visiting their office will be the right option as your time for application may elapse while waiting.

Attend the interview

Once you are done with the application process, a date will be given for your appointment. Make sure you dress neatly – A bright-colored clothing is recommended over a light-colored clothing. Most importantly, make sure to be at the venue of your biometric capturing at least 15mins before time.

Note: A digital fingerprint scanner will collect images of all 10 fingers, therefore, If you have temporary injuries on your fingers, you’re advised to wait until your injuries have healed.

You will be required to submit your documents with a visa application fee. Also, you will have to pay a fee to the Government of Canada as instructed by the IRCC.

Below is a list of the documents you will have to take with you to the Visa Application Centre;

  • The email confirming the details of your appointment
  • A Valid passport or travel documents
  • Printout of your completed visa application form (including 2 copies of 2D barcode sheets)
  • Biometric Instruction letter (BIL) for biometric cases only, Notification letter received from the Government of Canada for submission of your passport/documents, passport bio data page (2 copies), and VFS consent form (2 copies)
  • All supporting documents
  • The receipt of Visa/Biometric fee; if you paid online or purchased additional services online

After your biometrics capturing and complete payment, a receipt will be issued to you. This receipt will contain your unique tracking number, which will help you track the progress of your application online.

Track your application

After you have completed your biometric capturing and payments, you will have to sit back and wait for the decision from that Canadian visa office. As you know, the result maybe Approved or Refused.

However, to still tilt the odds to your favor, if you have any outstanding supporting document you may have not added during the visa application process, you will use that waiting opportunity to gather it.

You will track the status of your application from your portal or you will receive an email update from the Visa Application Centre.

To track your application online, you will have to enter the Tracking ID number mentioned on the receipt received from the Visa Application Centre, and your Date of Birth.

Alternatively, you can also track your visa application status using the VFS Global’s SMS service, but this may cost additional charges.

Visa Status confirmation

After the assessment of your application, the Canadian Visa Office will make a decision and affix a visa counterfoil to your passport, or issue a letter explaining why a visa could not be granted.

The Canadian Visa Office will return your passport and documents through the Visa application center for you to pick up.
