How would you like to take your pick of jobs in Canada without having to go through the whole process of going through the government and getting in line with everyone else that wants to come to Canada? It may sound too good to be true, but it isn’t! All you have to do is hire an agency that specializes in sending people from overseas on work visas, and they’ll do all the work for you. Here at WHIMS, we have been in business since 1998, so we know what it takes to get things done here in Canada and especially here in Toronto, where we’re based.

What is Agency In Canada?

In Canada, an agency is a person or company that can help you find work. They will find jobs for you and make sure your application is correct. A hiring agency cannot be used to pay less than minimum wage. An agency will never charge fees to work for them, it is illegal for them to do so. The agency’s job is always to get you more money; they won’t reduce your salary or charge you a fee.

If you are looking for a job to support yourself or your family and you want to work legally, an agency can help. An agency cannot be used to get around immigration laws. For example by using one to apply for a visitor visa instead of doing it yourself. You may not use an agency to pay you less than minimum wage or for cash-in-hand jobs (where money is paid under the table). It is important that you report all income on your tax return. So if you do accept employment from an agency, make sure that your taxes are being filed correctly. These jobs are legal and legitimate ways to find work while in Canada. Just make sure they’re done right by following these steps.

Foreign Workers

Only short-term foreign workers, who have been approved to work and live in Canada by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), can apply for jobs with employers participating in Provincial Nominee Programs, including those under Express Entry; Federal Skilled Worker Program, or Canadian Experience Class; Business Internship Program (BIP) or International Experience Canada. If you are currently a student authorized to work on campus through CIC, you may also be eligible for on-campus employment. Please note that if you are authorized to work on campus, your employer does not need to complete an offer of employment form. As a foreign worker living and working temporarily in Canada, it is important that you understand all of your rights when it comes to employment conditions.

Foreign workers or guest workers are people who work in a country other than one of which they are a citizen. Some foreign workers use a guest worker program in a country with more preferred job prospects than in their home country. They are those who work in a foreign country without initially intending to settle there. And without the benefits of citizenship in the host country. Some are recruited to supplement the workforce of a host country for a limited term. Or to provide skills on a contractual basis that the host country seeks. Others are recruited directly by a private employer. Which may need to certify that it cannot find workers among the country’s own citizens.

What are the benefits of being an employer-sponsored foreign worker?

The good news is that your visa can be a path to permanent residency. With a Skilled Worker (Permanent Resident) Visa, you can sponsor your family and eventually apply for Canadian citizenship. This means you won’t have to start again once you’ve been accepted as an employer-sponsored foreign worker. As a sponsored immigrant, you’ll enjoy nearly all of the same rights and privileges as Canadians, including government healthcare benefits. You may even be able to bring your pet with you if it is certified as having high levels of emotional support for humans or has been specially trained for search and rescue operations.

You can apply as a self-employed worker, a skilled trade worker, or by submitting an offer of employment to an eligible Canadian company. If you’re invited to come to Canada on a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) work permit, you will likely need to be fluent in one of Canada’s official languages. For more information about how to get approved as an employer-sponsored foreign worker, don’t hesitate to contact us today.

How can I apply to be an employer-sponsored foreign worker?

Applying to be an employer-sponsored foreign worker is pretty straightforward. If you have a job offer that requires you to be outside of Canada, most likely there will be a part on your offer letter for you to apply for permanent residence as an employer-sponsored foreign worker. If it isn’t clear where or how to apply, contact your potential employer and they should be able to help you with that process. You can find more information about applying here: How can I apply as an employee?

As an employer-sponsored foreign worker, you can apply through two programs: 1) Express Entry and 2) Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). You need to know which one is right for you. If you’re eligible for both, and your employer has to obtain a positive LMIA before they can hire you, it’s best to opt for Express Entry because your employer won’t have to wait for a positive LMIA. It will be faster and more efficient that way.

Is there any fee required to use this program?

Yes, and you may also be required to pay a placement fee when you land your job. These costs will be deducted from your first salary cheque. You should plan on starting with savings of at least $3,000 CAD. Placement fees vary by employer and position but can range from $300 to $1,200 CAD. To use a program like CEC, an applicant will typically apply to an agency to obtain a work permit under that program. The process includes an application fee and job placement fees which vary based on factors like employer and position.

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program: Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a program that allows certain people who came to the United States as children, also known as Dreamers, to receive protection from deportation for renewable two-year periods and eligibility for a work permit. Individuals must reapply every two years with their prior approval expiring after 90 days if not renewed before then.
